That choice would change Thompson's life forever. She was convicted of unarmed robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Prison Fellowship - Rikers Island 2017

Rikers Island is one of the last places you’d expect to hear stories of hope and forgiveness. But in this week’s Insider, Prison Fellowship® president and chief executive officer James Ackerman takes us behind the walls of the notorious New York City jail complex to meet the newest graduates of Prison Fellowship Academy.
“I learned to forgive myself, as well as learn to forgive others,” shares one graduate about his time at Rikers. “I became a better man. I started walking in faith.”

“I would tell my mom, ‘Just let me die in the streets.’ ” As it turned out, “prison is what saved my life.”

The first couple of times he got locked up were for short sentences, punctuated by more drug dealing and street life. The third time, he was arrested, the law wasn’t as kind. He received a 50-year sentence.

Prison Fellowship - Good Friday - Folsom Prison

Folsom State Prison is a California State Prison in Folsom, California, U.S., approximately 20 mi northeast of the state capital of Sacramento. It is one of 33 prisons operated by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Over 500 prisoners heard the Easter message on Good Friday in Folsom Prison on April 14, 2017. It was an amazing event!
