William J. "Bill" Gaither (born March 28, 1936) is an American singer and songwriter of southern gospel and Contemporary Christian music. Besides having written numerous popular Christian songs with his wife, Gloria, he is also known for performing as part of the Bill Gaither Trio, and the Gaither Vocal Band. In the 1990s, his career (as well as the careers of other southern gospel artists) gained a resurgence as the popularity of the Gaither Homecoming series grew.
I’d Rather Have Jesus – The History I’d Rather Have Jesus is a song written by Rhea F. Miller with the tune written by George Beverly Shea. This poem, written in 1922, was left on a piano in the Shea home by Bev Shea who wanted her son to find it and change the course of his life.
The words, I’d rather have Jesus, moved George so much and spoke to him about his own aims and ambitions in life. He sat down at the piano and began singing them with a tune that seemed to fit the words. Shea’s mom heard him singing it and asked him to sing it at church the next day.
George’s life direction did change. He was offered a popular music career with NBC, but a few years later chose to become associated with evangelist Billy Graham and sang this hymn around the world.
"Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words" (1 Thessalonians 4:17-18).

Daves Highway is the Mississippi-based trio comprised of teen siblings Delaney, Zachary and Erika Daves. In late 2009, Daves Highway started gaining a mass following online after posting some of their home videos on YouTube and Facebook. Their version of Chris Tomlin’s “Jesus Messiah” exploded online, catching the attention of the songwriter himself. Tomlin was amazed by the kids’ rendition and posted the video on his blog for his fans to see. He also gave a standing invitation for the siblings to sing with him should he ever come close to their town.
That dream came true later in the year when Tomlin played in Memphis and Daves Highway joined him on stage. “Singing with Chris Tomlin was a dream come true for us” says Delaney. “There were like six thousand people in the crowd singing along! It was so awesome and definitely a moment we will never forget.”
The self-taught trio’s voices combine to create a remarkable musical blend, which can only be created by what’s known in the South as “blood harmony.” Their love of music was inherited from their parents and it wasn’t long until the siblings picked up various instruments and discovered they could sing incredibly well together. “Music has always been a big part of our lives at home, church and school, whether we are just hanging out or being serious about it,” says Zachary. The versatile trio effortlessly jumps from one genre to another, citing their primary musical influences as Little Big Town, Chris Tomlin, Alabama, The Martins, and The Eagles.
There have been a lot of great women in Southern Gospel Music, but none have contributed more in my opinion than the late, great Eva Mae LeFevre. In her day, Eva Mae had no rival when it came to old time southern convention style piano playing. She was once a flawless alto singer, and perhaps one of the best emcees gospel music ever produced. She had a way of communicating with an audience like no other. She will be sorely missed.
