Liberty University Convocation - Star Parker

Star Parker is one of the names on the short list mentioned when anyone speaks of national black conservative leaders. Star Parker is the founder and president of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, a public policy think tank that promotes market-based solutions to fight poverty.

Before involvement in social activism, Star had seven years of first-hand experience in the grip of welfare dependency. After consulting on federal Welfare Reform in the mid-90s, she founded UrbanCure to bring new ideas to policy discussions on how to transition America's poor from government dependency.

Star has a bachelor's degree in Marketing and International Business from Woodbury University and has received numerous awards and commendations for her work on public policy issues.

Christine Caine, founder of anti-slavery organization The A21 Campaign, spoke to students about taking risks. Caine encouraged students to follow God's leading in their lives, in spite of any risks and worldly common sense. She challenged students to live risky lives as evangelists in an unsafe world. Christine Caine and her husband Nick founded The A21 Campaign, an organization that works around the world, fighting human trafficking and slavery.

Liberty University Convocation - Trey Gowdy - Senator Tim Scott

As a member of the United States Senate, Tim Scott is leading a new generation of Republicans. His unique life story offers a fresh perspective as to how conservative values can unleash opportunity for all Americans. Tim was raised in a single parent household in North Charleston, seeing his mom work 16 hour days to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. He got his first job, changing oil at a gas station, when he was 13. After almost failing out of high school as a freshman, he was fortunate to meet his mentor, a Chick Fil-a operator named John Moniz, who helped teach him conservative values.

Living a life of power, prestige, excitement and wealth, Wayne Huizenga, Jr. regularly dined at the world’s banquet table. Working alongside his father, the Chairman of Waste Management Inc, Junior enjoyed the perks that came with wealth, including owning three professional sports teams. He was free to drink heavily and quick to offer unvarnished comments and opinions to anyone in the room. He had available to him all the things the world had to offer-yet was never satisfied.

Liberty University Convocation - Jim Kelly

On October 24, 2014 at Convocation, North America's largest weekly gathering of Christian students, Jim Kelly and his wife Jill and daughter Erin, spoke to students about the trials the Lord has brought their family through and the faith they’ve gained in the process. The family spoke about the loss of their son Hunter and the process of fighting Jim’s cancer and how the Lord used these trials to bring them closer together and give them greater faith in Him.

Jim Kelly is a Hall of Fame quarterback who played for the Buffalo Bills and lead the team to four consecutive Super Bowls from 1991 to 1994. Him and his wife Jill lost their son Hunter to globoid-cell leukodystrophy in 2005, and Jim was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in 2013. He was cleared of cancer in August of 2014. The Kellys’ daughter, Erin, is a sophomore at Liberty University.
