'Southern Raised' are a family of 3 sisters and 1 brother from the tiny community of Hurley, Mo whose parents prayed that God would show them the ministry He had for their family many years ago. They were not singers in the beginning and in fact did not even play bluegrass, but were taking classical music training in violin and cello. That classical training eventually took a turn toward bluegrass music that they would go play for the occupants of nursing homes. In time they began to sing along with the music they played and before long the Lord had shown them where His ministry for them lay.
Their singing and playing abilities are purely God given and they will be the first to tell you that all they do is because of Him. They are as genuine as they appear on stage. There is not a single fake thing about them. Southern Raised has a true and deep desire to share the message of Jesus Christ. What you see on stage is what you will see anywhere. On stage or off. They have some very wonderful parents who raised their children in the glory and admonition of the Lord. Parents who are dedicated to helping their children in their pursuit of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. In fact they are the unsung hero's of this group. Their parents keep them on track, take the pictures, field appearance requests and scheduling, make sure they get where they need to go, and so much more!! All with the loving, patient spirit of Christ.

Wes grew up with an admiration for music, especially the music of Steve Green, Larnelle Harris, Michael English and the iconic Gaither Vocal Band. He sang in two groups while in high school, where he traveled locally and performed concerts. Wes later attended Trevecca Nazarene University from 1996 until 1998, where he sang lead for the Trevedores, a gospel quartet. He moved to Birmingham, Alabama and married his wife, Andrea, in 1998. Wes finished his B.A. in psychology and minor in music in August of 2000 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Wes was part of the worship staff at a local church in Birmingham for seven years, until he accepted the tenor position for the Gaither Vocal Band in June of 2005.
Wes won the 2006 Singing News Horizon Individual Fan Award for best new artist and was nominated with the Gaither Vocal Band for a Grammy in 2007 (“Give it Away”) and in 2008 (“Lovin’ Life”). Wes’s first project with the Gaither Vocal Band, “Give it Away,” won three Dove Awards from the GMA in 2007 for best southern gospel song of the year, best southern gospel record of the year and best long form video of the year. Wes’s third album with the Gaither Vocal Band, “Lovin’ Life,” won a Grammy in 2009 for best southern gospel or country bluegrass album as well as a Dove Award. The GVB’s project, “Reunited,” received a Dove Award in 2010 for best southern gospel record of the year. Wes released his first solo album in September of 2010, titled “A Man Like Me.
Aside from his obvious love of music and family, Wes loves to cook and considers cooking to be a passion of his. In fact, Wes released his first cookbook, “A Place at the Table: Hampton Favorite Family Recipes,” in 2009. Wes and Andrea reside in the Birmingham area and have four little boys: Barrett, 6 years old, Hudson, 4 years old, Carden, 1, and Sutton, born January of 2010.

I have to cry sometimes, I really do lay awake at night but that’s alright ’cause I know Jesus Will Fix It. The power of this video is seeing all of the Gospel Legends deliver this powerful message. The Legends can testify to the trials and tribulations they have encountered in their lives and yet they continue to sing of their faith that Jesus Will Fix It.

Before accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, Reggie and his 7 piece band worked professionally with such groups as Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Drifters, and the Platters. He also performed at the Las Vegas Hilton with Bill Cosby, Don Rickles, and comedian Redd Foxx of Sanford-N-Son backed by the Joe Gerceo’s 18 piece orchestra. (Elvis Presley’s band director at the Las Vegas Hilton.) At Lake Tahoe he worked with Dick Clark’s Rock-N-Roll Revival which featured the likes of Fats Domino, Chubby Checker, Rick Nelson, the Platters, and many others. He was employed by the Walt Disney Corporation for 10 years in Florida and California. One of his largest crowds was 80,000 in Tokyo, Japan. Then in the late ‘70’s Reggie Saddler was introduced to Jesus Christ while visiting Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Las Angeles, California where Dr. E.V. Hill was pastor. “Things Changed” and Reggie left Rock-N-Roll and joined Jesus.

Randy Owen and his wife, Kelly, attend the First Methodist Church in Fort Payne, Ala. (pop. 12,938), his hometown and the organizational base of the band. He says his faith has sustained him during his experiences in the topsy-turvy music business. “There’s a goodness about faith that helps you through the tough times,” he says. “It lets you rejoice with the successes, and yet have a deeper meaning in your life.”
Rhett Walker is not your typical Christian artist. The 25-year-old preacher’s son who was raised in the South has come full circle with his faith after a period of rebelling against it.
“We moved away from my hometown when I was 16, and I didn’t like that. I just went nuts, doing whatever I wanted to do in the moment,” he said. “I mixed with the rough crowd, got into fights and drugs. It wasn’t long before I was expelled from school—just always in trouble. So they sent me to this Christian school, the only one that would take me, and I met this girl. It wasn’t long after that we found out she was pregnant. That was the stop in the path for me.”
Being faced with being a father at 17, Rhett knew it was time to make a choice - he could continue going down the destructive path he was on, or he could change. “It was like, Man, what am I doing?” he recalls. “My girlfriend’s having a baby, and I have no job. I finally sat down with April, who is now my wife, and said: We’ve done everything wrong that we possibly can. Let’s do everything right from here on out.”
Rhett and April went on to get married, and rededicated his life to Christ. From there, the Lord began opening doors for Rhett to lead worship and pursue music. “I always knew I wanted to do music, but I couldn’t sing as a kid; I was just terrible at it,” he said. “So I was a drummer at church growing up until one day they called me out front to sing ‘Grace Like Rain’ by Todd Agnew, and I never went back to the drums. The more I sang the more things started opening up.”
Rhett’s first single with his new record label Essential Records was "When Mercy Found Me" off the album Come To The River. The record speaks of the singer's personal journey and is refreshingly raw and honest. One theme that is apparent throughout the entire album is that of grace.
“There’s just nothing we can do without grace; we’re all dirty, messed up people, but Christ still loves us,” said Rhett. “So there are two things we must do. One: rejoice, because now we have a purpose on this earth—to share that grace with others. Two: take up the calling. You can’t just take that love and not tell the story that goes with it.”
Rhett's latest single, "Come To The River," was written after the singer was having a difficult time dealing with the burdens of life. “I was kind of in a moment in my life where I felt like I was I just but being overwhelmed by the stresses of life. I started getting so overwhelmed that I got in my car one day and got alone with Christ, and I ended up in front of a river and said, ‘God I can’t do this alone, I'm just a man.’” the singers explains. “I felt like God was telling me, ‘Just come to the river. You got wash yourself clean of this. And you got to let me be in control.’ There are moments in everyone’s life when they come to that point. Mine just happened to be in front of a river.”
Marshall Hall was born on December 30, 1970 in Lexington, KY to a musical family - mother Alice, father Dale, older brother Mitchell, and younger brother Matthew.
His mother played piano at church, and dad was a singer. The family’s life was centered around the church and their faith. When Marshall reached high school in 1985, he joined the church youth group and attended the state youth convention. At the age of 14, he made a decision to follow Christ.
After high school, Marshall followed in his father’s footsteps and attended Anderson University in Anderson, IN. While singing at his church in Anderson, Marshall was approached by a local producer and asked to sing for a project at Gaither Studios. He never really expected to actually end up singing for a living, but about a year after graduating from college, he quit his job at a furniture store and began working as a studio singer full time. As a session vocalist, Marshall traveled frequently from Indiana to Chicago, Orlando to Louisville and to Nashville singing background vocals on records and jingles for several national clients, including McDonald’s, Long John Silver’s and Head and Shoulders.
During one session for Bill Gaither, Marshall was asked to join the Homecoming artists in Memphis, TN for a video taping. Subsequent videos followed for Marshall, including tapings in Indianapolis and New York City at Carnegie Hall.
He also found a spot as a back-up singer on projects for recording artists John Tesh, Clay Walker and Carman, among others. He has written songs for several Gaither videos, as well as for Salvador, Point of Grace, fellow Gaither Vocal Band member David Phelps and the Vocal Band.
In December, 2002, Marshall’s music lead him to another frontier - marriage to Sweetwater, AL native Lori Vick in April 2003. The couple have two daughters, Presley (born in 2006) and Allison Reese (born in 2008).
In 2003, he released a solo studio album, Wisdom of Fools which included 2 songs which were used by Point of Grace in their album I Choose You and Boundless in 2005 which included the old song from his former group.
In January, 2004, the newly-weds life would change again when Marshall received a call from Bill Gaither asking him to call Guy Penrod. From this phone call, Marshall began a one and a half month audition process to become the new baritone for the Gaither Vocal Band. He was a part of three of the Vocal Band's studio albums including Give It Away, Lovin' Life and Christmas Gaither Vocal Band Style. Marshall has been on the road with the Gaither Vocal Band from then until 2009 when he decided to leave the group to pursue a solo career and join the Mountain Park Community Church in Phoenix, AZ as worship pastor. Since 2009, Marshall has re-joined the GVB to fill in as Lead (2010, when Michael English recovered from back surgery) and Baritone (2013, when Mark Lowry broke his femur).
September 9, 2012 he began serving as Worship Leader at Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon, CA where David Jeremiah serves as senior pastor.
The Gaither Vocal Band got its start in the early 1980s with four guys singing around a piano backstage before a Bill Gaither Trio concert. Gary McSpadden, Steve Green, Lee Young and Bill Gaither were just having fun, harmonizing on “Your First Day in Heaven” when Bill decided they should try out their new sound on a live audience that very night. The audience went wild… and that impromptu performance marked the beginning of an era.
Now, for more than a quarter century, the Gaither Vocal Band has created a legacy of award-winning excellence that has forever raised the bar for male harmony. The list of men who have comprised the Gaither Vocal Band over the years reads like a “Who’s Who” among the gospel music industry’s best-loved voices, including: Gary McSpadden, Steve Green, Lee Young, Jon Mohr, Larnelle Harris, Michael English, Lemuel Miller, Jim Murray, Mark Lowry, Terry Franklin, Buddy Mullins, Jonathan Pierce, David Phelps, Russ Taff, Guy Penrod, Marshall Hall and Wes Hampton.
Always at the helm has been Bill Gaither, who has led the group out of his personal passion for great harmony and his genuine desire to bring meaningful music to a hurting world. And the Grammy-winning, chart-busting success of the Gaither Vocal Band has far exceeded his wildest expectations.
