Rusty experienced a defining moment the day he was no longer called by his name, but rather a number. His cell number. 121. That’s when it hit Rusty that something had to change about the way he had been living his life. During his second stint in jail he felt God begin to work in his life and that is when he made a new commitment to Christ and a new commitment to not only change his life, but to change the lives of other people walking the streets just like he had done which led him into trouble.
While in Jail cell 121, God put another number on his heart. 180. He had an idea to start a shelter called “the 180 Zone,” that would reach out to men, women and families in need of housing and assistance. His goal is to keep people off the streets and minister to them by sharing the love of Christ. That dream has become a reality. At just 24 years old, God is using Rusty in a mighty way! The 180 Zone has three locations in Illinois and Iowa! His ministry has been recognized by the state as being an exemplary community outreach. Lives are being restored all because one young man chose to use his troubled past as a motivation to help bring others a promising future.
